Mr. Smiley

Nathan began smiling on a more frequent basis this week. I feel the increase is due to sheer joy of being in this world, as opposed to gas - Just look how jolly he is in these photos. Sometimes he even does a little laugh - it is so funny. I have one more pic that I will have to add later. Sorry it is blurry - it is hard to catch on camera.

One Month

So, amazingly, our little one will be one month old tomorrow. I am amazed that time passes so quickly. Here are some pics from today. He is wearing the cutest onesie, a gift from his Aunt Lindsey and Uncle Ty. Lindsey is very creative, this is one of her handmade creations. She has an online etsy shop, Sweet Simplicity, if anyone is interested for a little one they know.

Nathan's Calling

Many people ask if Nathan has been pre-admitted to veterinary school. While that may not be, he did receive his first veterinary kit before he arrived. Tonight, he decided to put it to work on his little Wyatt.

If you look closely at his right hand, he has a syringe. Also a stethoscope. There are all kinds of tools in the kit, but did not really appreciate Mommy's posing, so that it all I could get pics of.

Happenings...

"Time for some pictures" is what I have been hearing, so here are some from the past week. This is a random assortment...

Nathan in one of his many bear outfits. He was very cranky on Monday, so I loaded him up for a walk outside, he quickly fell asleep and I was afraid to remove him from the suit for fear of waking him up.Daddy helping around the house - he is the greatest!!

He looks like such a little man!

Nathan in his sleepy wrap. This thing is the greatest. He falls right to sleep on walks.

Daddy's Little Boy

Nathan update:
We arrived home on Monday from the hospital. Nathan did great in the car on the way home, slept and hated the sun being in his eyes.

Wyatt has been obsessed with the baby. He didn't realize that a new addition was here until we showed him the baby, then it was on. He wants to see what he is doing, is very observant about his crying. It is going to take a while for hime to get used to little Nathan.

We are trying to get into the swing of a routine. Night one was rough - he slept waaay to much that day and Mommy wasn't making quite enough for him to eat just yet...So we were awake and hungry from 10pm to 3am.
Last night was much better. We kept him awake from 8 pm on - his Granne read him a story and he had a bath. Woke up like clockwork every two hours and fell asleep like a champ. We have been trying to get him to love his bassinet, but also let him sleep a little bit in the bed.
This morning, he and his Daddy cuddled, melting my heart...

Day Two

Nathan is officially on day two of his life. If possible, he is more perfect today than yesterday. He got checked out by the pediatrician and everything looks good. Received his first vaccination and had a hearing test (he can hear). He has had many a visitor today and handled the attention well, of course.
For those of you interested in the birth story, I will give a quick rundown. In hindsite, I was likely having some contractions at the clinic on Friday afternoon. I went home early and rested. When Trace came home I has having more of the same pains, but thought they were Braxton-Hicks. I continued to have some after we went to bed, and at 1 am decided that I was in labor and needed to get Trace up. We started timing and at 3 am headed into the hospital. When we arrived, I was 5 cm dilated. Everything progressed pretty quick and at 9:20 am, after one hour of pushing, out he came - all 8 lbs 13 oz of him. We are still in a bit of shock that he is ours, but on cloud nine. Here are a few pictures from day two.

Pics

Nathan Hayes is here!!!

It has been a very long and wonderful day. We arrived at the hospital @ 3:30 am and he was born @ 9:20. I'm sure Sarah can give details as she sees fit but I'll just say that she is one tough cookie. He weighed 8lb 13 oz. 21in long. Here are some pics.

Two in a row...

No exciting pictures for the day, but we need to get into a good habit with this blogging thing. So I went to the doctor today, everything is looking good. I have gained a whopping 40 lbs!! I am a little in shock because I really don't feel like I am carrying around that much extra weight - and we have a while to go still...Baby Nathan is in the proper orientation (head down) and she thinks he will be between 7-8 lbs. I just cannot believe that in four short weeks, 28 days, we will have a little human being to care for. I am so exicted and petrified at the same time.

I am going to do a post of what outfit all of our loyal readers, if any are left, think he should have his picture taken in at the hospital...

OK, I lied, I am going to post one picture. This is one of his cutest presents, courtesy of Catie Mawer...

Isn't that adorable...He can sport it on his first skiing vacation. Oh, another cute thing are these BabyLegs. They are girly according to some, sort of '80's leg warmer, but I love them and they will keep his little legs toasty.

Don't you love baby stuff.

Rough week

We have been very spoiled by the very fast and very affordable (thanks Brent) internet service for the past couple of months. Things were going great until we had equipment failure - ask Sarah! NO, NOT THAT EQUIPMENT FAILURE, shame on you! Anyway, we have been reduced to dial-up access, which is not much fun. Enough about that. Here are some pics.

4 weeks remaining!!!

What we do

Many of you know that we are both veterinarians and that we try to leave work at work but I decided to share a few of the "cool" stuff we deal with. It is usually true that if it is really cool or exciting it's bad for the animal.

Sarah is doing fine, baby Nathan is about 5 lbs right now. He went to first OSU football game last weekend, although I doubt he'll remember. I'm at home recooperating from a night of very unpleasant gastro-intestinal disease. Maybe I'll be able to hold down some supper tonight!

Slackers... sorry!

To the hundreds of people that read the blog we apologize for not updating. Whatever! Trace has worked on a sidewalk project for a couple of weeks.

What do you think?

Some before shots

And after

And after the work, Wyatt must rest!

On a baby note, there are only 47 days left until his expected arrival. We had the final childbirth class this week so we are supposed to be prepared. Right? We will update with the nursery changes and Sarah's expanding waistline....soon.

Inquiring Minds Want to Know...

I have had a few requests for pictures of the expanding waistline, so after church today I had my baby daddy take one.

Forgive the hair, it is really windy here. I also haven't seen much of the sun this summer. We are 31 weeks along or 9 more weeks until he arrives, in case gestation math isn't your strong point. I am seeing the doctor every two weeks now. We also started our childbirth classes last week, which did freak me out a little bit.

In case you missed the ultrasound pics, here is one of Nathan in profile. We would have loved to have a 3D/4D one, but they are pricey.

To switch gears, we had a loss our animal kingdom this past week...Eugene succumbed to the car, I hit him, we think, and he is no longer. It is tough living at our house, but we did add a new addition. This is Fungi, a kitty I saved from certain death. He has lived at the clinic for about 4 months, and I cannot bear for him to go to someone else's home, plus Trace said we could have him! He is currently being tortured by Virgil and Wyatt, but seems to be handling it well.

Sarah's Random Facts

My sister-in-law, Lindsey, is a pro at the blogging...She updates frequently and has a very chic blog. I think she "nominated" me for revealing six random facts...Here goes:

1. I love J. Crew...I wish they made maternity clothing. When a new catalog arrives, I lust after items on each page. Hopefully, my post-pregnancy body will return to my pre-pregnancy body and I can continue to wear their items.
2. I also love cake stands. I have five currently, which isn't that many, really. Trace cannot stand them, they take up space, of which we have little. I feel that nothing makes presentation prettier than a simple stand. I tell myself that I will be satisfied once I add a jadite green milk glass stand to the collection.

3. I am currently obsessed with baby things, for obvious reasons. Multiple times a day, whenever I get a break at work, I am online looking at clothing, accessories, or any baby related things.
4. I love to take baths. This has been put on hold over the past seven months so as not to overheat the kid.
5. The library is one of my favorite places. The Lawton public can be scary, but it is almost a weekly visit for me. I check out cookbooks, craft books, and general reading material.
6. Seven Brides for Seven Brothers is my all time favorite movie...Well, may be tied with Steel Magnolias.

Moonflower

I love to plant flowers, usually they do not survive due to neglect, as my husband will tell you. But this is one that has thrived despite my less than regular watering. My mother has always called it a moonflower, but it is similar to a plant called Angel's Trumpet. This is picture from earlier this summer when it was beautiful. It took a break during the heat of August, but has started blooming again now. It is super-hardy and is a prolific bloomer, although the blooms only last one day. If anyone is interested in seeds, please let me know and I will gladly collect and mail them.
